Your Responsibilities

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into effect in October 2006 and replaced over 70 pieces of fire safety law.

It applies to all non-domestic premises in England and Wales, including the common parts of blocks of flats and Houses in Multiple Occupation.

This law applies to you, if you are:

  • responsible for business premises
  • an employer or self-employed with a business premises
  • a charity or voluntary organisation
  • a contractor with a degree of control over any premises
  • providing accommodation for paying guests

Under the Regulatory Reform Order, the ‘Responsible Person’ must comply with 17 specific fire safety duties and other requirements of the Order.

Only one of these duties is to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment, so complying with the Order is much more than just a completed Fire Risk Assessment - it entails implementing and maintaining a fire safety management plan, this is what 1666 specialise in.
